Minister Bayraktar Meets with Turkish Community Representatives in Toronto
Minister Alparslan Bayraktar convened with representatives of Turkish civil society organizations in Toronto, including the Union of International Democrats (UID), Yunus Emre Foundation, and Maarif Foundation. During the meeting, Minister Bayraktar highlighted the evolving dynamics in Türkiye-Canada relations, noting a transition into a new phase of partnership. He emphasized that global geopolitical developments, especially across North America and other regions, are prompting nations to seek new forms of cooperation and alliances.

Minister Bayraktar pointed out the ongoing global trade conflicts, which make the relationship between Türkiye and Canada increasingly meaningful. He stated, “Canada, too, is now looking toward new partnerships.” Addressing Türkiye’s objectives in the energy sector, Bayraktar reaffirmed their commitment to achieving energy independence. He underscored the importance of collaboration with Canada, one of the world’s leading countries in utilizing underground resources.

Commenting on tensions in the Middle East, Minister Bayraktar expressed hope that the region would soon achieve stability and balance. He reiterated the significance of Iran as both a critical neighbor and major energy supplier for Türkiye.

Minister Bayraktar stressed the need for Türkiye to become stronger across all domains—economically, militarily, and politically. He cited unity and shared values as key foundations for national strength. As part of his Toronto visit, Bayraktar attended an iftar event organized by the Independent Industrialists and Businessmen’s Association (MÜSİAD), as well as the Canada-Türkiye Business Reception hosted by the Foreign Economic Relations Board (DEİK) and Turkish Airlines (THY).
During these engagements, Minister Bayraktar reaffirmed that Türkiye places great importance on its relations with Canada and aims to elevate them further. He identified energy, mining, and defense industries as priority areas for collaboration. The inclusion of nuclear energy in Türkiye’s energy portfolio was highlighted as a key topic during his visit. Bayraktar also noted increasing investments by Canadian companies in Türkiye and called for expanded cooperation between Turkish and Canadian firms.
