Minister Bayraktar Details New Drilling Plans and Gas Targets in the Black Sea Energy Sector

Bakan Bayraktar Visits Filyos and Yıldırım Drilling Ship

Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar continued his official program in Zonguldak, visiting the Yıldırım deepwater drilling vessel anchored at Filyos Port. The Minister joined the ship’s crew for sahur, marking the start of a busy night focused on Türkiye’s growing energy ambitions.

Major Developments in Black Sea Drilling Operations

Yıldırım and Kanuni Prepare for New Assignments

During his statements to the press, Minister Bayraktar highlighted that the Yıldırım is now preparing for its first mission in the Black Sea, scheduled for April. He also noted that the vessel’s twin recently departed from Taşucu Port to Somalia. Additionally, the Kanuni drilling ship is set to begin its new assignment imminently.

Two New Exploratory Drills Set for April

The Minister announced that, in conjunction with Ramadan and throughout April, two new exploratory drillings will commence in the Black Sea. These operations will utilize the Fatih and Abdülhamid Han ships, aiming to discover new reserves and expand existing ones.

Natural Gas Production and National Energy Independence

Production Increase at Sakarya Gas Field

Minister Bayraktar reported ongoing preparations at the Osman Gazi Floating Production Platform and forecasted that production from the Sakarya Gas Field will double within this year. As a result, natural gas supplied to households is expected to reach 8 million homes.

Geopolitical Importance and International Activities

Emphasizing the region’s geopolitical challenges, Bayraktar underlined the importance of reducing Türkiye’s energy dependence. He mentioned increasing output at Gabar and ongoing exploration of new sites. Internationally, the Çağrı Bey vessel is en route to Somalia, while Oruç Reis is being prepared for seismic work in Pakistan, aiming to start operations in April, pending security conditions.

Minister Bayraktar reaffirmed the government’s commitment to energy independence, supported by thousands of colleagues, under the vision of the National Energy and Mining Policy.

The Minister was accompanied by Zonguldak Governor Osman Hacıbektaşoğlu, MPs Muammer Avcı and Ahmet Çolakoğlu, and AK Party Provincial Chair Mustafa Çağlayan. The visit concluded with a group photo with the press.
